Job description
Powys is a county of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of mid Wales.
We are on an improvement and transformation journey that is being implemented with pace and enthusiasm. We are keen to appoint a Director of Education to join us as we move forward to the next phase of our ambitious programme.
Powys County Council and its partners are determined to work together
to make the county a better place to learn. We have an ambitious vision
which places the needs of our learners at the heart of our programme.
Good progress is being made and we are now looking for an experienced leader to drive the delivery of our improvement plan and vision, and to help the deliver the education transformation plan.
As our Chief Education Officer, you will be accountable for delivering across the following areas:
• School Improvement & Effectiveness
• Welsh in Education Strategic Planning
• School Resources and Financial Management
• School Access & Organisation
• Skills & Progression, including Adult & Community Learning
• Inclusion & Additional Learning Needs
• Education other than at school, including Pupil Referral Units
• Youth Services.
You will oversee the development of and implementation of all the Council’s key education strategies, and operational arrangements to secure high quality provision and outcomes for learners, in line with the delivery of the Council’s aims and objectives, and the Welsh education mission within the policy and legislative framework set by the Welsh Government.
You will be a member of the Council’s Executive Management Team and need to be an experienced leader with extensive experience in education, you will be also be expected to take a corporate role in working with a range of services in particular with Children’s Services.
